Official investigation (VE 1894) into the total amount of land under rent-free tenure and the ensuing loss of land tax revenue to the government (with the system of chāp and mānā chāmal) in the Kathmandu Valley and some other smaller areas, revenue (land tax potā) of Kathmandu. This investigation might be connected to King Rajendra's economy drive in the late 1830s which also involved pay cuts for the army. King Rajendra also issued a new code regarding social and financial reform in VE 1896.
